Junior State Championships 2014
Written by Ricky Davies

The 2014 Junior State Championships are fast approaching!

Being held between the 1st-4th of July, 2014 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, the Junior State Championships provide junior players with the opportunity to further advance their development as a hockey player in an environment which will produce the highest level of coaching, training and game time against some of the best junior players in Victoria.

The Eastern Hotshots are holding a Trial Day on Sunday, the 18th of May 2014 at a venue to be confirmed. In order to be eligible to attend the trial day, you will need to nominate/register at Hockey Victoria's website before the 29th of April! All Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 Boys & Girls are encouraged to attend the Trial Day! Please Note that a $21 Nomination Fee applies.

Coaches are also provided with the opportunity to further develop their skill set with Head, Assistant and Apprentice Coaching roles available!

Numerous members of our playing group in both our Men's and Ladies' First and Reserves teams have represented the Eastern Hotshots in the past and both Head Coaches at our club have also had experience coaching at the Junior State Championships.

So what are you waiting for? Give it a go! You could be our next Tom Murphy or Tayla Huxtable! And Coaches, maybe you'll be our next Robbie Bruce or Trevor Bannan!

Women: Looking forward to the 2014 season at Knox!
Written by Ange Hayes

Hi Ladies, welcome to old and new players this season, hopefully this will be a season of good hockey, fun and success at all levels. It has been great to see so many ladies coming along to training,  I know it’s a squash but hopefully as we near the start of the season we will have more opportunity to break into squads across the whole of the ladies section and that will mean everyone can improve their skills at the level and pace which is right for them.

This season we have seen a number of new players joining the club and I would encourage everyone to acknowledge a new face, introduce yourselves and make the new person feel welcome. I know just how it feels to be the newbie on the block as do many others – so if anyone would like to volunteer themselves to be a social butterfly we certainly would not refuse! On a social note once again we will be supporting the Breast Cancer Go Pink campaign again this year. With over $3000 raised last year it would be fantastic if we could beat that this year.  Go get your thinking caps on, Ricky and I would be more than grateful for any help or ideas for fundraising over the Pink Weekend this will hopefully be a team and club effort again so get thinking!

As you know we are still awaiting confirmation as to whether or not Hockey Victoria are going to run a Fillies competition and that decision will have an impact upon the ladies teams entered in the senior competitions so your patience is requested on that one. That said, we need people to register in order that we can also make a decision on whether or not to register another full seniors side. I believe we have sufficient numbers to do so, but unless enough are registered we are not able to propose another team.

Finally I would like to thank all the coaches for their efforts to date it is a really positive sign to see so many training hopefully this will convert into everyone playing their best and from that we will get great results!
