A message from the President
Written by Brendan Hart

As I approach the end of my 4th year as president of Knox Hockey Club I wish to inform all members that I will not be nominating again at the next Annual General Meeting. This decision has not been made lightly but, with an upcoming change in personal circumstances, I feel I will no longer be able to invest the time required of the president’s role.

Knox Hockey Club (in its various forms) has been part of my life for 24 years (for those playing at home that’s 72% of my life to date).  In that time for the most part I have enjoyed just being a playing member, but in 2010 after a short stint as secretary, I decided to take on the presidency with the support of AGM attending members.  It has been in this capacity that I feel I have made my biggest and proudest contributions to our club (easily said as a Senior Premiership medal still eludes me).

Perhaps unbeknownst to many, the financial position of the hockey club prior to this time was unhealthy, with no formal monitors in place and accumulated bad debt, which despite huge effort could not be recovered.  With a treasurer and committee around me determined to see this rectified, we set about establishing clear financial procedures and reporting.  Four years on our financial position has more than recovered and in recent years the club has been in a position to reinvest in hockey and our facilities.  Some such investments have been in support of our growing HookIn2Hockey program, Coaches, Canteen Refurbishment (complete with running water), First Aid Equipment including a defibrillator and training and on field equipment.  Most recently (and closest to my heart) we have also invested in new fridges to keep the beer cold – you’re welcome!

I’m also very proud of our improved relationship with and recognition from Hockey Victoria as an active club, and what we have been able to achieve working in collaboration with the Knox School.  Whilst all this has been going on in the backend through the efforts of a very hard working committee, the club has continued to enjoy some on field success, and as finals approach we are well positioned to bring home some flags in 2014.

Knox Hockey Club is a big club.  Each week 25 teams take to the field proudly wearing the eagle.  This does not happen without the hard work of committed club people who volunteer their time to make our club great.  As our club continues to grow, it is evident we still need to work harder and smarter and I hope in my time, I have laid some foundations from which we can do exactly that. If you’re interested in joining the committee in 2015 and would like more information, please give me a call or shoot me an email.

Finally, I would like to extend my utmost thanks and acknowledge the hard work of those volunteers and committee members who have supported the club and myself over the last four years.

Angela Hayes, Brad Reeves, Bryan Williams, Callum Fraser, Darren King, Greg Wright, Jim Bell, Ladan Khatir, Luke Baker, Ricky Davies & Steve Hollow

Al Grieve, Andy Wilkins, Brent Sullivan, Bron Oostermeter, Carol Hulme, Daniel Dowse, Daryl Hackett, Michael Burke, Rhiannon Hart, Sara Brown, Stephen Hulme, Stuart Owen

And a very special thanks to the lady in bold (and my little man at home) who some weeks don’t recognise me, shudder when the doorbell or phone rings in the evening, shake their heads when I load up the KHC website but patiently listen to every sentence that begins “So, about hockey”.

Thanks all,

Brendan Hart aka Skooter

Ferntee Gully Nissan Community Raffle - TICKETS NOW DUE IN!
Written by Darren King
Over the next week most players will be receiving raffle tickets for the FERNTREE GULLY NISSAN COMMUNITY RAFFLE. This is a great opportunity for us as all money from tickets sold will be donated back to the club. A big thank you must go out to Ferntree Gully Nissan who donates all prizes and tickets to help community based organisations raise money for equipment, coaching and many other things needed to run our great club. Please do your best to sell your book of tickets, there are only 10 in a book and at $2 a ticket this should not be a problem and as a bonus you could even win a NEW CAR.  If we sell all tickets then the club will receive $4,000. Please make the effort and return your sold and unsold tickets back to your team manager before the 19/7/14.

Bunnings BBQ Scoresby
Written by Greg Wright
On Sunday 6th July the club was lucky enough to be given another opportunity to run a BBQ at Bunnings. This time at Scoresby, with a similar result to last month in that we raised just over $1000. The timing of these BBQ's couldn't be better as we've just had to replace both fridges in the canteen.
Again we would like to thank Kilsyth Wholesale Meats and Bakers Delight Knox City for their continued support.
Thanks to the volunteers for giving up some time on a cold wet Sunday, we appreciate your help.
Ange & Floss Hayes, Beck Barton, Bek Bell, Bella Feltham, Christine Arrowsmith, Dani & Wendy Wright, Demi Hulme, Donna Burkitt, Adrian & Jacinta Dickinson, Sian Cawte, Lisa Westwood, Robyn Madsen, Billy Raupach, David Blindloss, James Upjohn, Josh Settle, Michael Steen, Peter Hill, Ricky Davies, Robert Stanley, Shaun Henwood, Tom Murphy and a special mention to Micky Saunders who did a double shift.
Well done everyone
