Once again the Knox Hockey Club is running it’s Summer of Fun competition at the Knox Ground. For those who have not played in the Summer Competition before, the emphasis is on the “F” word:
“FUN”
The Competition will run for ten weeks. We will run 6 nights before Christmas, and 4 in February.
Pre Xmas: Monday November 13th to Monday December 18th
Post Xmas: Monday 5th February to Monday 26th February.
The competition will consist of 12 teams of 10 players of mixed abilities. Each team will play 2 games per night, across three time slots. We would like to encourage parents and carers of players to take the opportunity of joining up to play with their friends and family (players do not need to be a registered Knox player to join us). If you wish to play with a friend or family member, you can nominate them when you register on line. The committee will ensure that teams are balanced in terms of age, skill, gender and experience.
The focus of the Summer of fun competition is to be an inclusive social competition to be enjoyed by all level of skilled players therefore you will be playing with juniors, seniors, masters ,parents and also people whom have never played hockey before. Higher skilled players are expected to mentor and help those who are not as skilled, The club also expects senior players to support and mentor the umpires. As each team will be of mixed age and gender there is a big focus on fun and social hockey therefore aggressive play or play outside the spirit of the competition will not be tolerated at any time. The games are played across the ground, which is divided into four smaller pitches and run for 30 minutes.
There are a few modified rules including, but not limited to:
- No raised balls
- No Hitting (only pushing allowed)
- No arguing with the umpires
- Aggressive or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
The cost of the competition will be $160.00 per person, which includes the cost of your uniform and game fees for the 10 rounds.
We hope that the word has already gone out about our friendly games, and that you are wanting to sign up to play this summer. There is a lot of laughter involved, old people get special aids, and newbies are made welcome. We would like to encourage new or inexperienced players to join in the club fun and register.If you are looking for a serious hockey competition this is not the comp for you however if you are looking for a fun Monday night then sign up.
Players who have played in HV winter competitions are covered by insurance. However this will expire 31 December. You will need to register for the 2018 season to be covered for the second half of the competition
All New players and previously unregistered players will need to register for insurance cover with Hockey Victoria for both the current 2017 season and the 2018 season via the vic hockey website. The cost ranges from $20 to $25 depending on what classification you fall under.
The competition is open to all people aged 12 and over.
